ISMEA Report Results based on ISTAT data, December 2024
After the decline in 2023, data from the first nine months of 2024 shows a 3% recovery in export volumes, which is actually contrary to the global trend. This is accompanied by an increase in value of +6% which, if confirmed by the end of 2024, could bring export performance values above eight billion euros. While the numbers are positive, the critical factor is that context analysis and global scenario suggested these performance levels should have been achieved two years ago. This target would finally be exceeded with at least two or three years of delay compared to expectations, due to the slowdown in foreign demand and the halt in international consumption. It should be noted, however, there is an increase in cross-border shipments of still PDO and PGI wines, while for common wines there is a slowdown, also due to limited availability from the past season. Meanwhile, sparkling wines are performing very well, with overall volumes up 13% and value up 9% from January to September.
